Silly Sheep and Busy Bees June McCann - Friday, March 18, 2011
A few of our customers over the past month have come into the gallery and said ‘You must be really quiet at this time of year.’ No chance! The Kramek v McLaughlin exhibition may be drawing to a close this week, but its full steam ahead with Iona Crawford’s solo show ‘Fair Game and Feathers’ opening this Sunday (the 20th). More details are available on our website or on our Facebook page. Speaking of Facebook, have you found our page yet? I know, I know, you are probably resisting the whole ‘social networking’ thing for fear of becoming addicted…but it’s worth joining even if just to sign up to our page. We regularly post sneak previews of new paintings and items in the gallery, plus you can find more details of our upcoming exhibitions. We also need to get more ‘friends’ than the ‘Make Jedi an Official Religion’ page, or else we will never be able to hold our head up in cyberspace again… Our latest additions to the shop include The Isle of Skye Candle Company range, some new pottery, jewellery and Stone Bags back in their more summery colours.
Finally a reminder that the Whisky Club meets again on the 31st of March. Anyone who attended last month will know we are not joking when we say ‘please book in advance’ as February’s meeting was bulging at the seams. So please, waste no time and book your place now, ‘cos if your name aint on the list chances are you wont get in the door! So a quiet time at Ealain Gallery? You must be kidding! But we wouldn’t have it any other way… "Weekend for Art Lovers" June McCann - Monday, February 21, 2011

13Feb-15Mar Our current show running until mid March is Kramek v McLaughlin. A joint show of new works by Scottish artists Pat Kramek andJ P McLaughlin, who have been life-long friends. Although both Scottish, Joe and Pat come from different cities and backgrounds. Pat was born in Edinburgh to a Scottish mother and a Polish Father whereas Joe was born in Rottenrow in Glasgow and remained in the city for his formative years. Consequently these differing life stories shape the ways in which they capture Scotland through their art. Wha's Like Us June McCann - Friday, January 28, 2011
So…28 days into the New Year and how many of those resolutions have you broken already? I fell off the ‘This Year I Am Eating Healthily’ wagon yesterday, thankfully there were a couple of chocolate eclairs there to cushion the fall. The shop is looking all fresh and, dare I say it, Spring-Like. As much as June and I love Christmas, after twelfth night the itch is there to de-clutter, de-glitter and basically get rid of all of those santas! Of course if the grinch had his way we would have done that on the 1st of December. That said I’m sure we will keep finding stars, robins and red glittery things in the corners we have forgotten about – we should make it a treasure hunt for the new year… Thankfully its been a busy month to keep away those January Blues. The Whisky Club started again last night, with a visit from Tomatin another great night hosted by Tomatins Alasdair Much. Burns’ Night also gave you a perfect excuse to purchase a new tipple. For those with a sweeter tooth the Arran cream liqueur, and Old Pultney‘s Whisky Liqueur were a great hit with the Crannachan! Make sure you leave a window in that shiny new diary to get into the shop for some new year bargains; Stone Bags, Farmhouse Crockery and selected notebooks on special offer now. Plus we still have a wide range of winter hats, scarves and gloves to keep out the freezing fog! Also, don’t forget that Valentines Day is just around the corner… And that’s your lot for now. I’m off to chew some celery and pretend it’s a Mars Bar. That was the year that was June McCann - Wednesday, January 05, 2011
That Was The Year That WasOh no – not another ‘Best of 2010′ re-cap! No – just a wee look back to some of the some of the bigger things to happen in the gallery last year, and a hint of what to expect in the coming… This was a busy year for the gallery with solo shows from Gordon Wilson, Luci Maclaren, Joyce Borland, Philip Raskin and Ritchie Collins. Our mixed shows included work from many of our other regularly showcased artists, while the students from Balfron High showed us what the artists of the future had to offer. New arrivals in ceramics and jewellery came from Garry Jones with his quirky farm animals and Gio Martin’s striking figures and colourful necklaces. Easter saw us at Gleneagles once again for the ‘Weekend for Art Lovers’, amid an unexpected fall of snow. We will be back again this year (keep an eye on the Exhibitions page of our website for further details) but hopefully the snow will have gone by then! We took the show on the road again in November for the Edinburgh Art Fair. It was a busy time of year with the shop just having gone all Christmassy, but the hard work paid off and a great time was had by all. It was great to see so many of our regular customers pay us a visit at our stand, and a thanks also to the artists who popped in to see us and have a chat with the customers. Back in Drymen the Whisky Club has really gone from strength to strength in 2010 with many of the nights being fully booked a few weeks in advance. The dates for the beginning of 2011 are allready on the website so book early if you want to be sure of getting a place! Summer brought the patter of tiny feet to June and Cameron’s house, thankfully of the puppy variety. I hope Kinchie doesn’t expect all of her winters to be this snowy! The gallery was delighted to be shortlisted for the ‘Scottish Independent/Small Retailer of the Year’ in 2010. Sadly we didn’t win, but there is always 2011! And what else for this New Year? More new exhibitions, more whisky tastings, more gifts and jewellery. More new faces through the door and the return of some familiar ones. Many thanks to everyone who supported Ealain Gallery in 2010, to the artists and the customers, Arlene who is such a great help at our Ladies Nights and Fraser (the shop mascot) who did his best to keep our pavement clear of snow these past weeks. All the best for 2011! Let it snow... let it snow... let it snow! June McCann - Tuesday, November 30, 2010
It goes without saying that Ealain Gallery has gifts to suit everyone, but with the snow thick on the ground and only 25 sleeps ’til Christmas perhaps it’s time to actually do something about it! Even just a quick walk through the shop can give you a host of ideas especially suited to the weather. Shearer Candles to give your room a cosy glow, festively scented Scottish Fine Soaps, colourful Dunoon Mugs ideally suited to hold hot cocoa and fleecy throws to snuggle under. For those venturing outside we have a range of hats and scarves from Ness and Pachamama. Through in the gallery you may be tempted by a Belltrees ironwork candlestick (for that candle you picked up earlier) or, if you prefer your candles more on the dainty side, a delicate snowflake inspired tea light holder from Natalie Aird. Darach offers a wide range of items, from candle holders to freestanding wine racks, all cleverly crafted from old whisky casks. Leading nicely into the whisky room, and if we can’t help you find something in there to keep out the winter chills then we obviously aren’t trying hard enough!! All of the above at the same time as our mixed Christmas show featuring original art works from a variety of our gallery artists. So whether you are treating yourself or someone else you are guaranteed to find something in Ealain Gallery to suit your pocket and your taste. And we hope to see you soon… Recent Posts
