About Nikki MonaghanNikki was born in 1971. After completing a BA(hons) degree in textile design at The Scottish College of Textiles she worked as an interior stylist througout the U.K. She now concentrates solely on her artwork. Nikki's paintings are created from the inspiration she gains on her travels around the coast. Simple forms and use of texture illustrate an image of a memory of a particular place, rather than a representation, creating naive quirky landscapes. Images are simplified and shapes and colours develop into pattern. Her use of mixed media includes oil pastels, acrylics and collage. She layers these mediums creating a painting where colours and image develop throughout each one. Nikki enjoys all stages of creating a painting, from working with her sketchbook to translating a mental image onto paper, then the idea for the colours and finally the finished work.
