About Bunnahabhain DistilleryBunnahabhain Distillery (pronounced Boo-na-haven) is the most northerly of the distilleries on Islay, sitting in a large bay in the north east. The name means ‘mouth of the river’ in Gaelic, and this perfectly describes its setting. Founded in 1881 Bunnahabhain takes its water from the Margadale Spring. Like many distilleries it has been closed and re-opened many times during its lifetime and its production was, at one time, limited to just a few weeks every year. Today the output from Bunnahabhain is approximately 2.5 million litres a year; some of which is kept at the distillery for maturation, the remainder being sent elsewhere either for maturation or blending.
